A weekly roundup of Kickstarter's key feedback

1

Scam Concerns

A significant number of users express concerns about scams and fraudulent projects on Kickstarter, with approximately 30% of reviews mentioning issues with scams or lack of consumer protection. Users feel that Kickstarter does not adequately vet projects or provide recourse for backers who are defrauded.

Kickstarter allows scammers to repeatedly run scams, and there's no recourse offered by the platform.

2

Login Issues

Many users report difficulties with logging into the app, with about 15% of reviews mentioning problems such as being unable to sign in, being logged out unexpectedly, or facing issues with password resets. This creates a frustrating experience for users trying to access their accounts.

I can't even set up an account; the app never does anything when I try to log in.

3

Poor Customer Support

Approximately 20% of users express dissatisfaction with Kickstarter's customer support, citing unresponsiveness and lack of assistance when issues arise, particularly with scams or project fulfillment. Users feel abandoned when they encounter problems.

Kickstarter won't answer my emails, and there's no support when projects go wrong.

4

App Functionality Issues

Around 25% of users report issues with the app's functionality, including problems with navigation, loading images, and syncing with the website. These technical issues hinder the user experience and make the app less reliable.

The app is really poor; pagination hasn't worked for months, and it's very frustrating.

Quotes of the week

Hear from some of the most impactful users to drive changes

The app is unreliable, often failing to sync and stalling. It offers no substantive advantage over using the website. Instead of just getting email updates that prompt to visit the website, I get the email, and an app alert as well. Tapping on app alerts frequently loads the app, which either stalls, or opens my web browser, which re-opens the app, which re-opens the browser, where I can finally read whatever the message was.

I have backed a couple of projects. I backed a pellet grill by a company called Asmoke. They didn’t make their timeline. Ok it happens. When I asked the creator on numerous occasions for updates, I got long winded responses that were multi paragraph flowery but devoid of actual information. Then, they sent out a survey to me asking how I liked my new grill. I have never received it. At this point this project starts smelling illegitimate to me, I contacted Kickstarter, the project creator and my credit card company to dispute the charges. You would think a smart company would just take me off of the backer list and move on. Nope not these frauds. Yesterday I get an email from Asmoke saying “we will have an update soon!” I tell them. “I’m out. I disputed the charges and do not want to be involved. Do not fight me. I don’t want to be involved.” Today I get a ship notification. Un freaking real. Do not do business with Kickstarter. Terrible customer service. Condescending communication when I contacted to notify them of the dispute and fraudulent actions.

I have wasted hours running around in circles with pledge box futile links and login attempts absolutely the worst customer experience I have ever had.
