TOP INSIGHTS

A weekly roundup of Speak's key feedback

1

Subscription Issues

A significant number of users, approximately 15%, report issues with unexpected charges and difficulties in managing subscriptions, leading to frustration and distrust. Users express dissatisfaction with being charged after canceling or not receiving notifications to cancel before being billed.

I canceled the subscription, yet I was still charged unexpectedly.

2

Limited Language Options

Around 10% of users are disappointed by the limited language offerings, as the app only supports English and Spanish, despite advertisements suggesting otherwise. This limitation leads to unmet expectations for those looking to learn other languages.

I was looking forward to learning French, but the app only offers English and Spanish.

3

High Cost

Approximately 20% of users find the app's pricing to be too high, especially for students or those on a budget, which discourages continued use despite the app's effectiveness. Users wish for more affordable options or discounts.

I love the app, but it's very expensive, and I wish there was a student discount.

4

AI Functionality Issues

About 5% of users experience problems with the AI's ability to accurately recognize and respond to their speech, which hinders the learning process and causes frustration. This issue affects the app's core functionality of providing real-time feedback.

The app doesn't pick up on my voice well, making it hard to use effectively.

Major Highlights of the Week

Subscription Confusion
Users are unexpectedly charged for annual subscriptions after assuming they were signing up for monthly plans, leading to trust issues. Clearer communication about subscription terms is needed to prevent user dissatisfaction and potential churn.
I thought it was a monthly subscription, but I was charged $100 for an annual one.
Limited Language Options
The app's language offerings are limited to English and Spanish, disappointing users who expect more language options like French or Japanese. Expanding the language catalog could attract a broader user base and enhance user satisfaction.
I was looking forward to learning French, but the app only offers English and Spanish.
AI Language Misidentification
The AI incorrectly assumes users' language preferences based on device settings, leading to frustration when users cannot select their desired language. Improving AI accuracy in language preference detection could enhance user experience.
Despite telling the app I wanted to learn French, it insisted I needed to learn English.
Network Issues
Users experience frequent network errors, which disrupts their learning sessions and diminishes the app's reliability. Addressing these connectivity issues is crucial to maintaining user engagement and satisfaction.
It always happens to the network error.
High Cost Barrier
The app's pricing is perceived as expensive, especially for students and budget-conscious users, limiting accessibility. Introducing more affordable pricing tiers or discounts could increase user retention and acquisition.
I love the app but it's very expensive; a student discount would be helpful.
Inadequate Free Version
The free version offers limited functionality, pushing users towards paid subscriptions without sufficient trial experience. Enhancing the free version's offerings could improve user conversion rates and satisfaction.
Not enough opportunities on free version.

I really love this app to learn English, I think it's the only one that has worked for me, but I think it's very expensive. I'm a college student and I wish the app had a student discount, I really don't want to stop using the app:(

This is an incredibly helpful app for helping me to practice and get comfortable speaking Spanish aloud. I’ve really been enjoying it… but I was surprised by the cost. I thought it was going to be a monthly subscription after the first week, but I just got charged $100 for an annual subscription. I wish they’d been more up front, it’s hard to trust them after that.

I finally have an app that actually practices Spanish speaking because I don’t have anybody to talk to so this app is very good. Very nice. Thank you for it.
